A little weekend away

Last weekend, we went to Peoria, IL to watch Grandad play with his German band in Oktoberfest. I have to say, my kids LOVE Polka music. It's hilarious. And as much as we've seen the band this summer, they know a lot of the words, especially Lucas. I can't wait until he goes to kindergarten singing, "roll out the barrel" or "In heaven there is no beer". And I looked so silly dancing along, but I guess that's what makes it fun.

In the afternoon, we went to the zoo. It was nice, but really small. The perfect size for my kids, but when we finished walking around, I said to Nana - "did we miss something?". The kids had a lot of fun and Lydia could walk around without getting too tired.

Here's a silly story for you. After you read it, tell me if you think my kids hang out with Grandad too much. We stayed at a really old hotel in downtown Peoria. So old, that Liberace had started out playing the piano there in 1937. So I was reading all about the history of the hotel to Nana while the kids were playing the hotel room. The list of famous people that stayed there went on and on, including President's Reagan and Ford, then Senator John Kennedy, Mikail Gorbechev (spelled wrong), Stan Musial, and on and on. So then I read Lawrence Welk and Lucas' ears perked up and he came running over saying "Lawrence Welk??" Lucas and Lydia both sit entralled with Grandad watching old reruns of Lawrence Welk. They really like it. Too much quality time with Grandad or are we just raising kids with great music appreciation? You decide.

Oh and note the Big Brother, Little Sister shirts. I tried so hard to get a nice picture of both kids, but they were either running too fast or making silly faces. They drive me crazy sometimes!!!

Here's Lydia dancing like crazy on the steps. It was totally cute!
