Adoption is Stressful!!!

In case you are wondering, baby #2 is causing me some stress. As most of you know, things are a little iffy in Vietnam right now. For those of you that aren't up on the latest Vietnamese adoption news, let me explain. Three years ago, Vietnam reopened adoptions to the US by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This September, the MOU will expire and we don't know yet if it will be resigned. I'm an optimistic person, and I really hope they resign, but who knows????
Anyway, I'm continuing on my dossier (collection of paperwork to be sent to VN) and with any luck, things will all work out.
Dossier update: I had a minor oops on my paperwork that I sent to the Illinois Secretary of State. I had forgotten to sign the copy of my passport. So after waiting over a week for my paperwork to come back, I called the SOS on Monday and the nice person in charge of certifying paperwork had my stuff in a pile to call me. To make a long story short, I got a new passport copy notarized and overnighted to the SOS. She got it on Tuesday and when I called to confirm on Wednesday morning, she said she'd be mailing it back that day.

Now remember the iffy status in Vietnam, combined with my lack of sleep waiting for things to be processed. So I decided to:

Leave work at lunch yesterday
Drive to Springfield to pick up the certified dossier
And Immediately Fed-Ex'd it to the courier in Washington, DC so it can go to the VN embassy for authentication today!

WHEW!!! And now everyone is up to date and I've done everything in my control to get that paperwork done ASAP.

ADOPTION is not for the faint hearted.

I've had to put the dossier gathering in power drive. We should have everything notarized by after work. I faxed my adoption consultant everything I have and as soon as she okays it, as well as what I'll be sending her tomorrow,; I will go to the IL Secretary of State in Chicago and have it all certified. I work not too far away, from there office downtown, so that part is convenient. Are you using the Assistant Stork in D.C. How are her rates for what she charges. I'm not sure if I should go with her or FedEx it to the Embassy myself. Also how do we gop avout having it Fed Exed back to us. My e-mail is an80slady at sbcglobal dot net.

We sent our dossier to the courier earlier this week. After the RUSH to get everything gathered and state certified, I'm just waiting again. I'll feel much better when it's in my hands again! Congrats on getting this far, Shannon S.

We are all in the same panic. Our docs are now at the Stork. We enclosed a fedex label and envelop inside the fedex to get it back. Email Cathy to get more of our details. Sleep one of these nights would be good.

No, it's not for the faint of heart. I had no idea what we were getting into. Won't it be such a great feeling to have that dossier out of your hands once and for all! -Gina

No one ever told me how stressful this whole adoption thing could be. Glad you are done with your dossier. I hope everything works out for all of us. It would be nice if we had a clue as to what Vietnam was going to do come September!
