Lucas started daycare last week. He's going to go to a home daycare 2 or 3 mornings a week and Nana, Grandad and Aunt Ali are going to watch him the rest of the time. We got off to a rough start last week. There were some tears, but I'm hoping he and I can both adjust quickly. There are lots of children there his age and it will be great if he can learn to play with them. It does make me feel better that he's only there for a few mornings here and there. I can't imagine how hard it is to leave them at daycare 40 hours a week.
Here are a few interesting Lucas quirks!
- Lucas loves most shoes, but especially the squeaky shoes I got for him at the Tax Market in Ho Chi Minh City. He's grown out of the orange shoes, but he carries them around and sometimes wants to sleep with them. When given the choice, he will choose to wear the red pair over any other shoes he owns. (Nana and I took him to the shoe store last week to check into white baby shoes - he took an instant dislike to those.) I wish I had those squeaky shoes in bigger sizes. If anyone is headed to Vietnam soon and has room to bring home a few pairs of shoes if they come bigger, I would be forever grateful.
- Lucas loves Barney. He sings and dances along. And I can't get the songs out of my head!! It's awful.
- Lucas is in the really annoying stage of throwing his food/milk etc on the floor after he's done with it. It's driving me crazy. It makes a loud bang as it hits to floor from the high chair. And one day soon he's going to take one of the dogs out!
- Lucas is getting more and more independant. He wants to walk down the driveway without holding my hand. And that brings me to my next bullet.
- Lucas had his first skinned knee last weekend. I'm sure it will be the first of many. It didn't really bother him too much, he laughed while I cleaned it off with soap and water. But I did go to the store and get antibiotic ointment and Little Einsteins band-aids - so I'm ready for next time.
- Lucas is fascinated with steps. He just walks right up to them and doesn't really understand what to do. I have gates at all the big flights of stairs, but the little ones like on the sidewalk are so tempting for him. So far, I've been able to catch him, but before he figures it out, I'm expecting some little tumbles.
- He loves ceiling fans and always wants me to lift him up to pull on the switches.
More than anything, I enjoy watching Lucas trying to figure it all out. He put one shoe on by himself a few days ago. He put all his puffy snacks into the bottle lid and then ate them from there. He's just so funny to watch.
Adoption #2 update: Things aren't going quite as well with baby #2. The agency increased the wait times for baby boys last week. It's now 18-24 months instead of 12-15. I think since we've been on the list for 4 months, we're going to fall somewhere in the middle - maybe a 15-18 month total wait. It's so hard not to get caught up the emotion of waiting. I'm not ready for a new baby right now and I know things all happen for a reason, but it's just really hard to be patient sometimes.
Here's Lucas eating at Cracker Barrel. He's loves to eat!
And here he is in his new Thomas the train romper - a gotcha anniversary gift from my friends Carra and Casey. They also sent me a t-shirt about adoption taking so long, but worth the wait. It was so thoughtful and cool to get gifts!
Lucas with Aunt Ali and Harrison - his baby cousin who he adores!
Here's my busy little guy playing with his shopping cart. Note the red squeaky shoes in his hands!
Here's Lucas riding his toy. He's started going backwards on it. A few nights ago, he backed up to his toy mailbox, opened it, put a book in and slammed the mailbox shut. Do you think he could grow up to be a postman?
And lastly, playing with his lego table. Isn't he advanced?
I'll try to post a little more often so the entries don't have to be so long. It's just so tricky to find the time.

Lucas is so cute! I hear you about Barney! How funny! My DH and I will be going to VN through CHI sometime in the fall or winter. We would be happy to bring you some squeaky shoes. If you could send me a picture of exactly what they look like that would help me make sure we get the right thing!
