Mommy-hood is so fun!
So here's my fun mommy story from April. One weeknight, we went to Wal-Mart to buy stuff for Lucas' birthday. I'm sure you can feel my pain already. We got our shopping done with only a few issues from the kids and headed to the check out. How can Wal-mart have so many lanes, but they are never open? Lucas wanted to go to the self checkout (which I hate) so we did. It's so slow and the kids were pushing and shoving. Some man was trying to talk to me about adoption (I guess he has a daughter from Guatemala). Anyway, I was really starting to lose my temper with the kids and the slow checkout when it happened. A 2-liter of grape soda slid out of the wimpy plastic bag when I loaded it in to my cart and crashed to the floor. It exploded all over! All over me, on Lucas and Lydia, all over my bagged groceries and the strangers around me. Lydia immediately burst into loud tears. And all I could do was stand there in the middle of a huge pool of grape and laugh. When it was over and the soda spray stopped, two self checkouts and a gum display were covered with soda. Lucas was really mad because people were laughing at me. And I said I would have laughed at us too. I bet it was really funny. He was mad/embarrassed and gave me a hard time the whole way home.
So the moral of the story is, the kids can drive me nuts sometimes, but I love them more than anything in the world. And when I'm taking myself too seriously, it time to stop and smell the grape soda.
Happy Mother's Day to everyone.
