Visiting the Zoo

I took the day off work today in honor of Lucas' birthday week. :)
We went to Springfield, IL to a little zoo in their park. A perfect size for a 3 year old. He even walked around by himself for a while. And he loved the playground.

This goose was the first animal we saw. Lucas was fascinated seeing it so close.

And here he is looking at the wolves. They were pacing so they were very easy for him to see.

We fed the swan and goldfish.

Here's Lucas with Aunt Ali on a turtle.
Here he is striking a pose and pointing out the water fowl.

With mommy on the hippo.
With Grandad by the pretty butterfly.
With mommy on the slide....... and then Grandad on the slide.

Look at the static electricity in his hair!

Here's a swan sitting on a huge nest. Too cool.

And Grandad and Lucas on what I think was a dolphin statue.
And finally, Grandad made Lucas one of those flat pennies with a monkey on it. Lucas held it half way home (45 minutes) and dropped it countless times and freaked out wanting it back. The 3 grownups were going crazy trying to find this silly penny. Finally, he dropped it and we couldn't find it so he had to finish the ride watching his dvds. (Grandad probably won't be buying another one of those pennies soon. It was hard work during the drive.)

It looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I wish I could have gone too! I am off for my first shower later this afternoon. Lucas is a cutie pie!
